Examine your house from the street and make sure no valuables, such as expensive artwork or electronics, are visible from the street.
Unplug the power to your automatic garage door to keep thieves from opening it with a universal remote.
Make it appear you’re home: use timers on lights, radios and televisions.
Keep the perimeter of your home well-lit.
Consider installing a home security system and make to set it when you’re away. Recent studies have shown that homes without a working home security system are 300% more likely to experience a theft.
Ask a trusted Windsong Ranch neighbor to put your trash containers out for pick-up day and back again when they’re empty.
Ask that same neighbor to park their car in your driveway occasionally to give your home a more lived-in look.
DON’T
Post details of your vacation for everyone to see online. Wow them with your vacation photos after you return instead!
Hide a key outdoors for any reason. If thieves know you’re away, they’ll search every potential hiding place.
Leave clues that you are away, ask your trusted neighbor to pick up your newspaper and mail.
