You know, there was a time when reading was an adventure. When instead of playing video games or staring into an iPad for hours, a good book and a comfortable seat were all you needed to go on the journey of a lifetime. When libraries were still libraries.
Well, there is currently a trend sweeping the nation. And it’s called the Little Free Library.
What is the Little Free Library?
Started in 2009 by a Wisconsin man named Todd Bol, the Little Free Library began as a tribute to Bol’s mother who loved reading. He built a model of a one-room schoolhouse and filled it with books and put it on a post in his front yard. His neighbors loved it so he continued to build them, each with a sign that said “FREE BOOKS.”
It looked a little something like this:

The mission is simple: To promote literacy and the love of reading by building free book exchanges worldwide and to build a sense of community as we share skills, creativity and wisdom across generations.
Take a book, leave a book. Spread ideas, creativity, and the passion for reading.
Since we pride ourselves on our sense of community at Windsong, we have installed our own Little Free Library so that our residents can share with and learn from each other! The Little Free Library in Windsong Ranch is easily accessible from the parking lot at The Commons. It is located by the Event Lawn on the east end of the building.
Windsong Ranch, an active and healthy lifestyle community, promotes a healthy mind, body, and soul. Reading is an essential part of that and is something that should be passed along to youth from an early age. Reading improves writing. Writing improves speech. Speech breeds confidence.
Take a break from the iPads, video games, the television, and take an old school adventure that will never get old!
